Making the “Impossible” Possible – Supply & Delivery of food based gift into Las Vegas

Recently we visited the Promotional Products show in Las Vegas looking to source new items for our clients. It took us three days to walk around the whole of the show. It really is the place to go for trade shows. But we have had experience of Las Vegas and the show industry there before …..

We were approached by a new client with a question – “Why can’t I send tins of mints to Las Vegas? My existing supplier tells me it’s not possible”.
As a rule we don’t criticise competitors. First of all it’s not right if they are not there to defend themselves and secondly we would much rather talk about what we can do rather than what others cannot.

On this occasion we did, however, have to state that we thought
this was nonsense. We speak with some authority as we currently send between 5 and 50 international shipments per dayAfter a short conversation it transpired that the client didn’t want to send mints anyway, that was just what her supplier was showing her. She actually wanted to send 300 small packets of shortbread to give to conference delegates at a tea break but felt
constrained by what she had been led to believe was possible.

A few days later she had a sample of a tin with a London bus and her logo on the outside and on the inside two quality wrapped shortbreads. We came up with the bus idea as she wanted to reference London in some way. She signed off and we duly delivered 300
tins into Las Vegas. There were no customs delays because we flied a Prior Notification with the Food and
Drug Administration in the USA that the items were coming, contents, Harmonized codes etc.

We were able to do this because we are registered with the FDA and know how to complete the required paperwork. Just like we know what types of invoices to put with what shipments; wording to use to minimise the chances of customs delays; what defines a Dangerous Goods shipment and how to deal with it; how to deal with items containing Lithium batteries, such as powerbanks and so on.
